Located in Northeast Atlanta, Georgia, Immaculate Heart of Mary School (IHM) is a Catholic school that serves a diverse population of 500 students from Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 8. Established in 1958 as a parish school, IHM strives daily to follow its guiding principles of Faith, Knowledge, Service and Integrity.
Accreditation Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic School, and all member schools of the Archdiocese of Atlanta, are accredited through District-Wide Accreditation sponsored by Cognia.
Distinctions IHM is a Twice Recognized National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence (2019, 2009). The school received this distinction because of its proven academic rigor and standardized test scores that rank in the top 10% in the state. IHM is not eligible to apply again for Blue Ribbon status for another four years.
Faculty and Staff IHM has grown to 58 faculty and staff members. All teachers meet the current standards established by the Southern Association of Independent Schools, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, and the Office of Catholic Schools.
All teachers are certified in their academic levels. The faculty has an average of 13 years of teaching experience (412 years total) and 63% of our teachers hold advanced degrees. With an average class size of 20 students in the elementary hallways and 30 students in middle school, our teachers are able to create an engaging academic environment conducive to learning. The Student Body IHM has a culturally diverse student body of approximately 500 students. 76% of the student population is Catholic, representing 22 different parishes around the Archdiocese of Atlanta. In their homes, IHM families speak English, Spanish, Italian, Vietnamese, French, Portuguese, Greek, and Amharic. Our families represent 39 different zip codes in Atlanta! In accordance with the teachings of the Catholic Church, IHM follows a policy of open admissions regarding sex, color, ethnicity, and national origin.
Student Activities Extra-curricular activities through the parish and school include Band, Basketball, Cheerleading, Soccer, Volleyball, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Student Council, Art, and various community service activities.
Foreign Language Spanish is the language offered to all students from Pre-K through 8th grade.
School Hours 7:55 a.m. First Bell Rings 3:20 p.m. Dismissal except for Wednesdays, which is 2:20pm.
