HM students begin each day with morning announcements and prayer. Students attend Mass three Tuesdays per month and on all holy days. Parents are welcome to join their students for any of these celebrations. During Mass, middle school students serve as Ministers of Hospitality, Lectors, Praise Team Singers, and Kindergarten Helpers. Depending on the grade, students may also be gift bearers and altar servers. Currently, one grade per week attends Mass in person, while the remaining students watch Mass online.
The Sacraments of Reconciliation and The Eucharist are celebrated in the 2nd grade. Students receive instruction on how to prepare for these sacraments during their Religion class.
5th grade students participate in an
Archdiocesan Vocations Day, which will take place virtually this year. During Lent, all IHM students will have a
Day of Reflection.
In the Spring, we are planning for our 6th and 7th grade students to participate in an overnight
Encounter Retreat which gives the students an opportunity to further their spiritual and physical growth in a beautiful setting away for school. Students in grade 8 also participate in a fall,
Unity Retreat to spend time deepening their faith while bonding with their fellow classmates and teachers.
Service is how IHM School puts faith into action! Students have the opportunity to participate in 25 service projects each year in support of local and national organizations. From spending time with the students at Margaret Harris Comprehensive School or the seniors living at Briarcliff Oaks Retirement Home to creating care packages for the military and Central Night Shelter guests, IHM students are actively engaged in works of charity and service to others.
This year, our school community is getting creative on how to carry out works of service since we are not able to actively engage with vulnerable populations. Parents and their children have been encouraged to write notes and letters to children in hospitals, military personnel, seniors in nursing homes or retirement centers, and first responders. Some families have also joined
PebbleTossers which offers a number of different service opportunities in the Atlanta area. In addition, we look forward to our yearly
Box of Joy project and other school-wide clothing and canned food drives to assist those in need.
